Helping to celebrate the Laceby Karate Clubs 21st birthday year, nine karate competitors from the Laceby Karate Dojo competing in the Federation of Shotokan Karate National Karate Championships, held in Nottingham, brought back an impressive haul of 15 trophies, 3 x Gold, 4 x Silver and 8 x Bronze.
Under the leadership of the Laceby club squad coach, Sensei Portas, they all performed
extremely well. The nine students of the Laceby Dojo, gained fifteen awards as they
took on karate-
With the University sports centre packed with karate students & spectators from all around the country the competition started with the adults individual and team events in kumite and kata. This was then followed by the junior events.
Although all the Laceby karate members performed to a high standard and fought with spirit, the two Laceby Karate Club stars of the day where 18 yr old Kyle Ailsby, who took 1st place and Gold in the junior grade individual Kumite, Kyle then went on having a great day by also winning the Individual kata event, bringing home two Gold awards.
13 yr old Jack Thompson, entering his 1st Federation of Shotokan Karate Karate Championships brought home the Laceby karate clubs third Gold when he won the under 16 yr old individual kata category.
